What is HYROX

Eight runs. Eight stations. Same race everywhere.

HYROX is a fitness race: eight 1 km runs, each one followed by a workout station. The stations are the same at every event in the world — SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls. That consistency is the point: your time in Anaheim means the same thing as anyone else's time anywhere else. It also means the race is trainable, because you know exactly what is coming.

Why train for it here

Being fit is not the same
as being prepared for HYROX.

Most people who sign up for HYROX are already in shape. That is rarely what costs them time. What costs them is the part general training never asks for:

  • Running on legs the sled just emptied. The run after a station is a different skill than the run you do fresh.
  • Sled work. Heavier and longer than most people plan for, and it changes everything that comes after it.
  • Pacing. Going out hard on the first two runs and paying for it across the next six.
  • Transitions. The seconds given away walking to the next station add up to minutes.
  • Station standards. Reps get waved off for depth, height and form you have never had judged before.
  • Managing one long effort. Roughly an hour and a half of work, not one hard class.

The camp is six sessions built in sequence, not six random hard workouts. Every Saturday assumes what you did the Saturday before.

What the six weeks develop

  • Running under fatigue. The single skill the race is built around, trained on purpose instead of by accident.
  • Station capacity. SkiErg, sled, row, carries, lunges and wall balls at race standards and race distances.
  • Sled work. The station that ends most people's day, handled as its own training problem.
  • Pacing. Finding the effort you can actually hold for eight runs, then holding it.
  • Transitions. Practicing the parts of the race that are not the workout.
  • A race plan. Walking into Anaheim with numbers instead of hope.

The camp runs after the regular Saturday class, so it is additive. Members keep their normal training and add the HYROX-specific work on top of it. Session-by-session programming is set by Bradley within the cycle.

Who this is for

You will recognize yourself in one of these.

  • Already registeredYou signed up for Anaheim and you are not sure how to actually train for it.
  • StrongYou are strong. The running is the problem.
  • A runnerYou run. The sleds and the wall balls are the problem.
  • Been thereYou have raced HYROX before and you know exactly where you lost the time.
  • Training with no targetYou train consistently and you want something specific to train toward.
  • CuriousYou are HYROX-curious and you would rather find out what it feels like at a simulation than at a race.

Your coach

Bradley Cross

Bradley has spent more than 15 years training in CrossFit and functional fitness, but HYROX has given him another way to put that training to the test.

After completing multiple HYROX races himself, Bradley knows what the event demands: strength, endurance, pacing, efficient movement, and the ability to keep working when fatigue sets in. He also understands that preparing for HYROX is about more than simply doing harder workouts. It is about learning how to combine running and functional movements in a way that is specific to the race.

As Heyday’s HYROX coach, Bradley brings that firsthand experience into every session. His focus is helping athletes train with purpose, build confidence with the movements, understand race strategy, and arrive at the starting line prepared for what is coming.

Whether you are signing up for your first HYROX or looking to improve on a previous race, Bradley will help you get ready for race day without turning every workout into a race.

When he is not coaching or training, you will usually find Bradley exploring California with his wife, searching for great coffee, breakfast burritos, and the next adventure.

Standalone event

HYROX Simulation

Saturday, November 21

A full HYROX-format simulation on Heyday's floor. Eight runs. Eight stations. Timed and judged.

No camp required. Show up, race it, get your splits.

Open to camp athletes, Heyday members and outside athletes. Two weeks out from HYROX Anaheim is the right time to find out what your real pace is, where your transitions leak time, and what the sled actually does to your legs — while there is still time to do something about it.

Same form. Choose “Simulation only” under what you are interested in.

Why members pay for this at all

Membership already covers Saturday training, and the camp does not replace it. The camp fee is for what sits on top: HYROX-specific programming, a dedicated coach for the block, a six-week progression that assumes you are doing all six, a cohort training toward the same race, and entry to the November 21 simulation. It is not six extra classes.

Questions

Before you sign up

  • Do I need to be registered for HYROX Anaheim?

No. The camp is built around preparing athletes for HYROX, but you do not need to already be registered for Anaheim — or for any race — to train with us.

  • Do I need to be a Heyday member?

No. The camp, the simulation and the Saturday drop-ins are all open to non-members. Members pay a lower rate; everything else is the same.

  • What if I miss a Saturday?

Missing one is manageable. The sessions build on each other, but one gap will not undo the block. If you already know you will miss several Saturdays, drop-ins or the standalone simulation are probably the better buy — note it on the form and we will point you at the right one.

  • Is the simulation only for camp athletes?

No. The November 21 simulation is open to camp participants, Heyday members and outside athletes. Plenty of people will race the simulation without doing the camp.

  • Do I need HYROX experience?

No prior HYROX race experience is required. You should already have a reasonable base of general fitness — this is race preparation, not a starting point for someone new to training.

  • Can I train for doubles?

Yes. Doubles changes your pacing and how you split the stations, and we will coach you to it. Note it on the form — with or without a partner — and we will talk it through when we call.

  • Where is this?

Heyday Elite Fitness, 279 W 7th St, San Pedro, CA 90731. Easy from anywhere in the South Bay and the Harbor Area — Wilmington, Long Beach, Torrance, Lomita, Palos Verdes.
