When Susan first came to the gym, she was not exactly all in.
She was skeptical about the whole CrossFit thing, dealing with some pretty significant hip pain, and not fully convinced this kind of training was going to work for her. Like a lot of people, she was not sure she could keep up. She was not sure her body was ready. And she definitely was not walking in feeling confident.
But she gave it a shot.
Susan was not the kind of person who naturally loved working out. She did not enjoy the discomfort that comes with training, and she was not someone who had spent years in a gym environment. What she did have was a strong reason to get healthier.
Her family.
She wanted to feel better, get stronger, and get back to a version of herself she had not felt in a long time. But like a lot of people in that position, she was not overly optimistic at first.
Then something important happened.
She stayed with it.
What changed
Over the next several months, Susan kept showing up. She stayed consistent, trusted the process, and followed the plan even when she did not always feel like it.
That consistency added up.
Susan went on to lose over 40 pounds and more than 15 inches overall. During one 40-day challenge alone, she lost 10 pounds and 6.25 inches. More importantly, she did not just lose weight. She changed her body, improved her fitness, and built momentum in a way that was sustainable.
That is a very different outcome than a quick-fix diet or a short burst of motivation.
Why her story matters
Susan’s story is a good reminder that progress does not always start with confidence.
Sometimes it starts with hesitation. With doubt. With an injury or limitation. With not really feeling like a “gym person.”
That does not disqualify you.
A lot of people assume they need to feel ready before they begin. In reality, a lot of meaningful change starts before confidence shows up. It starts with a decision to try, then another decision to come back, and then another.
That is how momentum gets built.
The bigger takeaway
Susan did not transform because everything felt easy. She transformed because she kept going.
She worked smart. She stayed consistent. And she followed a plan that met her where she was instead of expecting perfection from day one.
That is how real change usually happens.
Final thoughts
If you see yourself in Susan’s story, take that as a good sign.
You do not need to love exercise right away. You do not need to feel fully confident. And you do not need to have it all figured out before you start.
You just need to be willing to begin and stay with it long enough to let the process work.
At Heyday Elite Fitness in San Pedro, that is what we try to help people do every day.
